“Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I’m here inviting the sin-sick, not the spiritually-fit.”
Mark 2:17 (MSG)
When I was younger, I thought that very few people in the province get sick. Their active lifestyle, healthy diet and unpolluted environment are so ideal. But, when I lived in the province, I found out that it’s not true. I discovered that they also get sick but not everyone seeks a doctor’s help. I’ve been with people who would choose water therapy, rub an ointment or ignore the sickness, as long as they could, rather than going to the hospitals or health centers. While there are different reasons why they did this, one thing is for sure we need help even before we want it and ask for it.
This is why we go to different places bringing the doctors and nurses, offering free medical services and giving away medicines to the people who can’t afford them. In these mission trips, we don’t just give them free services but offer them God’s gift of forgiveness, salvation, and freedom. We preach the good news to them even though they are not asking for it because we know they need it, just like we do.
Our Lord Jesus Christ came to earth to save us even before we desire Him. That’s why, as His disciples, we go to places and reach even more people and introduce to them the greatest Doctor, who heals our sickness, forgives our sins and gives us new life, Jesus Christ.
